Open Thread: Easy Home HEPA Allergen Remover

EDITOR’S NOTE: In the spring of 2021, Aldi appears to be selling this product again but is calling it the Easy Home HEPA Air Purifier. The specifications seem to be identical, and it costs $10 more at $69.99.

Most people know that while air is (usually) clear, it’s not empty. Our atmosphere is filled with countless chemical and biological agents, from exhaust fumes to bacteria. In the spring and summer, allergens also join the mix, with pollen being one of the biggest concerns. Everyone is, to some extent, sensitive to allergens in the air, but some people are affected worse than others. Medicines can help, but it’s also nice to be able to find ways to get away from the allergens altogether.

One option is a HEPA allergen remover, which uses a high-standard filter to pull allergens out of the air. Aldi carries one from time to time.

What We Know:

Easy Home HEPA Allergen Remover

The Easy Home HEPA Allergen Remover (Product Code: 90220) is an Aldi Find. That means it’s only in stores for a short time. At the time of this post, the Aldi allergen remover is $59.99, which is far less than most other allergen removers online. It comes with a 5-year warranty, backed by Tempo USA, a common Aldi after-sales company.

This remover measures 8.5 inches wide and 12.27 inches tall and is designed for rooms of up to 250 square feet. It utilizes two filters: a HEPA filter and a carbon filter.

The HEPA filter is designed to remove airborne particulates, including allergens.

The HEPA filter.

The active carbon filter is a honeycomb filter. According to Aldi, this is a two-in-one filter, absorbing 1) formaldehyde, toluene, other chemical substance and 2) odor in the air.

In addition, the Aldi allergen remover comes with the following features:

What We Don’t Know:

As far as we can tell, 2020 is the first time Aldi has sold an Easy Home Allergen Remover. The grocer sold a Holmes Allergen Remover back in 2018 for the same price, but we’re not sure if this one is the same or not. Because it appears to be new, we also don’t know how the Easy Home version performs.
